Hi penny. When you mentioned which portrait was your favorite , I had to check it out and I can see why now this one is your favorite. I like the yellow lighting against the back of his hair. and the expression - priceless. I have to admit I don't know who he is, but I am a 40 plus mother of two living in the States.

LOL - your age is no excuse at all!!! He's Josh Homme, the lead singer in Queens of the Stoneage. And I'm 55 and had my twins (God help me) at 53 - I have 3 other grown up children...but I still like Rock :)

I'll have to look him up. When I saw the portrait of Green Day I thought you were twehty or so. How do you find the time to do art with toddler twins? Now I am more in awe. :)

I wish I was 20 or so. Running around after 2 year old twins is enough to make me feel like Methuselah. But I like rock music and my older kids like Green Day, so I know about them that way. Just thought that Billie Joe has a great face to paint. Do a street painting of him and they will love you!

Have a great day Penny. You're comments make me smile. I look forward to seeing your next upload. Speaking of Billie Joe, he does look a bit like Paul McCartney of which I have recently done a portrait. I'll consider it. People like to see faces they recognize at chalk festivals. They can connect with the art that way.

I guess you need to know the demographic at the festivals you go to and work from there. I've found my art certainly gets appreciated by many more when I paint someone famous. :)

Yes . It's so true what you say about knowing one's audience. Have you ever been commissioned to paint a portrait?

Yes. The worst one was a family of 5 - so it was easy to start with, but with watercolour it is tricky to cover mistakes and so I began to get very nervous by the time I started the 4th portrait. It's on my facebook page if you want to see it!

I shy away from painting children because I make them look older through no conscious effort on my part. I did one street painting with two little girls which was a reproduction of a famous painting called the " Calmady children" by Thomas Lawrence. Definitely not one of my best efforts and I vowed never to paint kids ever again. At least publicly. I am curious about your painting so I will look it up. Five faces to paint. I hope you were rewarded adequately for all the work involved.

I'm so happy to hear that. How would I find your Facebook page to see the portrait? Have you heard of deviantart? They are an artist website where you can post art as well. I have not used the site myself but I found it by accident while looking for a photo of Janis Joplin.

If you go to the top of this page there are links (little symbols) to both my facebook page (mostly watercolour portraiture) and deviant art (which has everything of mine) :)
