Born in Lyon, Michèle Girardon became prominent in a host of films, including those of notable directors of the French New Wave. But for those of us from my generation, she is fondly remembered from the 1961 action/adventure movie 'Hatari!' ; for her role, as she spoke no English when cast, she taught herself the language while on the set. Unfortunately, during the 1960s, Michèle became romantically involved with a married Spanish "nobleman", occasional actor and notorious fraudster (whose name deserves no mention). After finally obtaining his divorce in 1972, the cad ended his relationship with Girardon to marry another woman. Michèle never married or had children, became increasingly despondent, and committed suicide via an overdose of sleeping pills at the age of 36.

Lovely portrait, David. I remember her from Hatari - she reminded me a little of Ingrid Bergman.

What beautiful art you bring to us. And to me another sad story. You are very kind by adding some details of these ( largely forgotten ) lovey women. Your gallery brings great stories and superb paintings , for which I thank you . :hi:         :hi:

A massive compliment, truly honored Tom  I never really thought much about the fascinating and often sordid and tragic history of Hollywood when I lived there, but have found motivation to pursue these stories, inspired and encouraged by the great artists here such as yourself   :whip:

Yes, a man can be a Spanish nobleman and a bastardo nonetheless. Such a sad story, she was so great in Hatari! Beautiful tribute  :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip:

I know life can be randomly unfair, but the all too common stories of reckless lotharios and their victims become difficult to accept ... I find some solace in presenting these remembrances, and I so appreciate your views and comments!
