Excellent! When I see this portrait, I remember me about a german painter, Adolf Menzel, who used these colors for différent scenes. I love it! :whip: :whip: :whip:

It's a shame that you know this German painter and I don't ... your knowledge is amazing.

No...not shame, Kerstin. Menzel, I discovered him four years ago with an excellent book about his painting. I work as art teacher in industrial center and for me, Menzel shows sensitive scenes in fabrik that nobody wants to see. Just anarchists and syndicalists saw men, women and machines like that. After, you find Otto Dix, Oskar Kokoschka for example. But at the end of 19th century, it isn't easy to see that with naturalist details, craft and socialist vue. Your style for me with your colors choice is friendly with this painter as he would be your ghost muse. But it's just a personal intuition when I see your painting, naturally! :ok:

Maybe he was  I remember visiting an exhibition of Emil Schumacher's arts at school. I would have preferred Menzel.

Now, you can go to visit an exhibition of Menzel or buy a book of his paintings  I'm agree with you. I prefer Menzel too. But in Europe, The Art Market is american. And in USA, art is concept. Figuration is nothing, just past to forget. So in Germany, in France, we must show just Conceptual Art and abstract art in exhibition, musees. I regret this culture because we forget big masters painters. I hope it will change. Because art foundations are in figurativ art, not in conceptual art.

You're right. I never know what to make of conceptual art. My teacher said only that was real art, whereas figurative paintings were just a craft. I decided for myself then that I didn't like art. But I love to look at those like Norman Rockwell or Carl Spitzweg. Or this portrait site :*D:

Art is all styles. But for conceptual art, it's just a manipulation. Because any "conceptual artist" makes object or painting. It's just blablabla about an idea. Not art. Art is based on different technics, need a a physical and esthetic engagement. It isn't blablabla. Blablabla is just a big lie and manipulation to have money without a real artwork. If Art Market US was honest, their "artists" would be considerated as a big manipulation. But for Art Market, figurative art is nothing, conceptual art is the best of the best. For me, it's a gigantic scam. One day, figurativ art will be well considered again. We change of mind, of representation, of values...Paradigme is here now. We see in the end of liberalism, of empires. Survive on earth is a reality for all people now. Not just a little part of humanity. So figurativ art find again a place. Not as photography but to give an other sorte of testimony. And figurative art give a spirit light to reality. For me artists must give it to the world, to the others. We receive inside a mission to show this light with portraits, landscape, etc. It's important for all people. I don't know if you read Byung-Chul Han, but I love his vue about our world and humanity.

Well-said. I think figurative arts can tell stories!

Yes, stories and planet history too. If we cut this connexion and reject this figurativ art, we lose part of our identity and our history. That's my feeling about it. So I resist as you, as every artists here on SP and all figurativ artists. It's very important for future. :magic:
