Thank you, a bit unfinished, the underwash of blue as seen on the neck and down the left side, which I didn't finish to blend in. Sorry, I was lazy and to worried about finishing. :/ :)

I like the unfinished look..and, in the thumbnail, I thought it was a hi-def digital piece

 brainfree - 09/06/08, 08:06 reply
Thank you, It's paint and nothing but paint. Just think do I like it? If it was digital I'd say so in fact I could do a much better job in digital. :D  :)

kudos to you then...but digital, to me is kinda tense, whereas paint and other messy, drippy, sloppy media are more expressive and relaxing...even therapeutic! :ok: :ok: :ok:anyway, your piece is very nice..

Thank you, I paint for the love of it, I don’t want Kudos. I love the sloppy media and it is therapeutic for me. I love trial and era, challenging myself, failing and painting. I’ve thought about the number of paintings I’ve done and I think I will remove 50 and go out of the top slot and let the other scramble into first, they seem so set on regaining the top position. I would like to be known only as someone who helped others and painted realistic portraits that looked like the people. I have my originals stored and there a sum I dislike. :)

yeah...we all need to have a portfolio cleaning periodocally...I wouldn't worry about the top spot if I were you...your work is strong. I don't know if you know American baseball, but Mickey Mantle hit lots of home runs. And Pete Rose hit lots of singles. When Rose broke the record for number of lifetime hits and someone told Mantle that 4,000 of them (over half) had been singles, Mantle said: "Whew, if I'd 'a' hit that many singles, I'd 'a' wore a dress."

7 of 9, one of the best characters from Star Trek. excellent portrait, I seem to have a bit of difficulty controlling watercolours when I have tried using them, I either mix them to thick or they get all mix

 brainfree - 07/07/08, 17:18 reply
Thank you, Control of the water comes from practicing colour washes, layer the colour on and allowing drying time. If you are impatient then reverse the normal way of painting. Paint an eye with Acrylic black pupil and a few construction lines then wash on the Iris and the skin tone with Watercolour paint. Use more than one brush ( use 30 on each painting) put a colour will stay on each it can be used to mirror colour say for a face. Sketch in the face with either watercolour pencils or the dirty-water cup. Have three cups of water for washing out, one for black, grey and dark colours, one for light colours and another water pot to mix paint from. The Black wash pot I call dirty-water keep this pot only add water to it. After a day or to it will make a dirty mix that is great for either sketching or facial marks it is translating but unlike Gouache W/C paint has no white in it so it dies not create opaque colours. I hope that will help a little, practice. :)

 brainfree - 14/08/08, 12:46 reply
Thank you, gifted OK, I would like to think it was the 50 years of hard work, practice, perseverance and patience. I was a different painter 1 year ago then it seemed to all make sense. :) :8)
