not taking anything away from all the previous, but in a way this new freer style adds a certain vibrancy...it looks like a Sports Illustrated editorial piece
Great work. I've tried Corel Painter and the sketch effect (outline sketch as you referred to it in your tutorial). graphicssoft.about.com/od/painter/ig/Painter-Sketch-Effect/Sketch-Effect-Intro.htm.
It really makes getting all the facial features, distances and proportions perfect. No need to struggle with trying to draw things first. Lets you get the likeness right everytime. . Don't know how you do the all the rest of it so well; effects , etc. Well done.
I know the sketch effect. But I have some questions: does this effect produce the texture of the paper as in a pastel or chalk works? (I mean produced lines are artificial). This effect shows your desired lines or every wanted or unwanted line? As you see the answers are no. in second step you have to create new layers and select pastel or chalk tools and then sample needed colors from color set or your pallet and even you photo model and then begin to paint. You can use blender for mixing the colors in edges.
Following to pervious explanation I have to add, I sketch with charcoal directly not with sketch effect. You can obtain some nice lines by sketch effect but many unwanted lines will be there and you will have a tiresome work in erasing them! And problem of charcoal effect on a rough paper remain.
