Thanks! This picture came along fairly quickly. I should have put more darkness in the hair though to contrast the lightness. My method of drawing involves using grid squares to get the proportions correct. I've tried drawing celebrities without guidelines before but can't seem to get a good likeness. I guess it comes with practice.
Grid lines are good but I start on the eyes and draw out. I guess that is weird but if I start with the shape of the head I get botched up. Can you figure!!!!!!
I used to always start with the eyes and draw outward as well. But, I kept having trouble getting the nose the right length and the overall shape of the face in consideration of the eye size. I still experiment with different methods. I've printed a couple of tutorials on proportion and they certainly help. As it stands right now though all of my best drawings were still done with the grid square method but I would like to move away from that method eventually.
I started with the top of the face and the eyes before. I read then that it was better starting with the shape. I thought it would be impossible for me but, finally, it came naturally one day!
Thank you very much I love drawing from life it seems better to take something three dimentional and copy it . Doing photos is a little more challenging being that you are converting two dementional things into a drawing that is trying to assimilate three demention. You know what I am talking about though. Hard to put into words. I am off on vacation for two weeks and will return Sept 15. Keep drawing and have fun!!
What ever way you can do it is acceptible. It is truly hard to draw from life. I took a lot of drawing courses and some actual life drawing too. In fact I took five courses in drawing and one course in sculpture. I sculpted a head, hand and foot. they are on my personal web site chrismortonart.com you can look it up and please sign my guest book!!
Oh, they're already online!^^ I think there's something different in the eyes. I still love how you draw the hair
I sometimes draw without measurements. I did 4 drawings like this yesterday and the day before but i don't know if I'll put them all online because when there is no likeness, I prefer put them only on my blog and deviantart. Usually, eyes are too small when I draw like this
My method od doing hair is fairly simple. I fill in patterns of lines, blend them with a stump to smooth, and then use an eraser to lift out highlights. I want to start using darker pencils to make the contrast more evident between the lights and darks. I really struggle drawing curly hair also. I need to find an easier way to get definition in curlier hair.
this is just fantastic..yes a little more contrast in the hair..but ..whatever..its great...im too lazy to try gridding..seems as time consuming as the drawing..but thats just me..it may be easier in the long run..thats what ive been told anyway..but..i prefer trying to do it without..i start with one eye..then go from there..like the side of the face the chin..and lips..the nose is always the hardest for me...always..and curly hair...i tend to stay away from it..lol..i have done a few..but...ehh..well love your gallery...im still checkin it out..
Thanks! I used to always draw from the eyes outward, but I just can't seem to get a good likeness that way. I don't know why. I agree that the gridline method takes a little more time but it seems to work the best for me. The thing I love about the gridline method is it helps me get all of the basic proportions set up faster than my old way of drawing from the eyes outward. I love to spend most ofmy time shading and filling in details. Thanks again for your comment.
