Wow! Great work. How do you get such vibrant colors?

 brainfree - 10/09/08, 08:21 reply
Thank you, There just ordinary watercolour, the only thing is I go to a lot of work to keep them from mixing with others in some places. Because watercolour always drys lighter you must allow for it.  :8)

Fantastic. I'm excited by the choice of the colors - such red vs. black is something totally ..great.. amazing. And also with the green there. So firstly, the colors are great, and also the expression couldn't possibly be better! :grin:I found myself - little unimportant amateur in such position - talking about colors and such "professional" stiff, hope not to look toooooo embarassing  simply, i like it, it catches eye immediately.. wish i was at least 1/1000 as good as this :whip: :hi:

Thank you, First I am not a Professional artist, But that doesn't stop us having professional equipment. The colours are the product of a large selection, I buy four manufacturers of water colour, two leading main ones and two cheap ones. Also I use a cheap gouache paint. I may say cheap but that’s cost not quality. Although it may say orange on the tube, I found there are three tones of orange, each with different qualities. As far as the expression I am in this case painting from a very good photo and although I changed it! so it feels new to me the expression and colours were there to start, but I have like all of us put my stamp on the work.

PS. I’ve had a look at your gallery and I think the Jared L is very good stick to a medium for a little longer each time. Draw say 4 of each. Pencil, graphite pencils, graphite block and charcoal pencil these will teach likeness and technique. Pastels will teach tone and colour. Nothing arrives perfect you have to work. To me art is about originality, technique and likeness and this is attained by the hard work of practice, perseverance and patience. It doesn't matter now! if your work is not as good as you think it should be, as someone you hold up as good. I think your talented and will draw and paint one day with no difficulty.  :8)

Thank you apart from the eyes, I was very happy with another half hour it could have been better, but working to a time and attaining a good standard is good practice for me. I have a goal want more speed in my drawing. Out of an hour 30 minutes is about the likeness then there is 20 minutes for colour and the remainder is about finish, like flattening and blending. Practice. :8)

Thank you, it turned out very well, I'm having problems more with my one eye with a Cataract. In February I had a cataract removed from my right eye now I have to have the left eye done then new glasses. It is slowing me down a bit now. As I paint to do this so close and only standing far away with one eye close can I see the results. I missed the eyes on this portrait they are not completely finished. :8)

 Christine - 12/09/08, 12:19 reply
Sorry to hear about your eyes Brian. I will start to pray for your complete recovery. My sister had a detached retina and it didn't turn out too well. But the other eye with the cataract did turn out just fine keep your chin up it should be better soon good vibes on this one!!! :hi: :hi:
