Thanks! I love using the darker pencils. I used an extra bold soft HB pencil for the majority of the picture. I always start off using a mechanical pencil to get basic outlines. Then I start using the bold pencil to fill in substance. I blend that with either a paper stump or soft tissue, and use a kneadable eraser to lift out highlights.
Rodney, I know that if you started coloring your portraits with acrylics, you would be surprised at how well you will do.
Try it, you have nothing to lose. That's how I got started.
Excellent work, the definition of the face is stupendous, this captured all its physiognomy in a remarkable way and the style of work of the hair allow to accentuate but the face that you get a very good expression.
