Portrait of artist 2tones(Canada) Added on Nov. 03, 2008 20:11 Mixed media
Ceci est mon premier essai au feutre noir. L'original est moins réussi que celui-ci (photoshop, pour ajuster le contraste). Le feutre donne des contrastes mais ne permet aucune subtilité. Qu'en pensez-vous?
This is my first try with a gelt pen. The original did not come out as nicely as this because I was able to darken the black through Photoshop. Felt is good for contrasts but does not permit any subtility in the shadows. What do you think? Do you like it?
A little dark but an excellent portrait from Angelina's new movie "The Changeling"
It is a wonderful movie directed by Clint Eastwood and Angelina may be nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards! Fabulous role!
Thank you Jeanette for your comment. It sounds like you went to see the movie. The ad from which this portrait comes from makes it look like a dark story. I am happy that Angelina did a good job. With all the paparazzi type of news we get on her, we tend to forget that she is also and excellent actress.
Excellent, original and wonderful, forget the to dark comments, it's perfect. I can see your search for the look and you have found it in two tones, no pune intended. Ok why draw First I'm old and a little older than you. I hate to say it but I spent years drawing and practicing likeness, and came late to painting. Painting is what it's about, draw Yes! but paint as well. I'd like to call you Mr 2 million colour tones, Great work, Sorry it's a bit boring.
Brainfree, Brian.
I thank you for your comment. You are a very prolific painter but, as well, a convincing apostle of colour. I do not have your experience as I really only started to draw 3 years ago and I feel that I still have to get better in my 2tones phase. However, I am listening and your arguments and own example make sense. As you have touched and tried all kinds of drawing may I know why you now concentrate on water colour. I thought that water colour was meant to be an introduction to oil or acrylics. Thank you again for your encouragement and the time you are taking to dissect my boring work. Jean
First apologies for the delay. Yes I am prolific and have been since about the last 18 months it’s like a drug. I don’t disagree with practicing drawing and the 2 tones, but please start drawing in colour as it’s important for development. First I would draw with watercolour pencils as they can be used later as a stepping stone to colour. I’m not important I’m not a teacher and only wish to help in a learn from my mistakes kind of way. I have painted in Acrylic and Oil and like both but the watercolour portrait scene was lacking and I did not know why! So many good watercolorist seem happy to stick to the formula of landscape type painting, a little dull and boring? but I also saw sum wonderful watercolours by different artist and decided to lead. I break the rules, their were probably 5 good watercolorist now there are 50 all experimenting and working at it. Nothing is impossible, I paint rain, shower water, tears, make bright vibrant work and break rules. I have had to paint step by step to prove that I paint them, as people thought I cheated. Now I only paint original pieces and some pastiches of posters and anything. Fun, Fun, Fun
Superbe portrait. C'est vrai que le feutre ne permet pas beaucoup de nuances mais c'est aussi son intérêt ! Pour plus de subtilité utilise une autre technique (aquarelle, gaouche...)
