I'm going to paint the ' Christmas Carol' Father Christmas from the end scene in the film 'Scrooge' 1968 film with Albert Finney. It's my wife favourite film and my favourite Book.
Very nice, great idea...Finney is amazing really...I was watching a bio pic the other night and he was playing Winston Churchhill dead-on...looking forward to seeing it!
In the film he plays scrooge as a young man, then mainly as an old man, this was al when he was only 25 to 30 himself. He was excellent in the role, I've seen older men play scrooge, but a young man like him, it was truly great.
Yes,my grandmother,God rest her soul told me that Finney was a sex symbol when he was young...I only knew him from Annie as Daddy Warbucks, but saw his older films and realized what a great thespian he was...stuff like Tom Jones and such.
Well your granny was right he was a very good looking guy. He played the part when he was good looking, you should watch it if you get a chance, it sounds very twee and is a musical but honest it's very good. Even though I've seen it 20 and more times, it still has something to say about life even today. Of course My other favourite is 'It's a Wonderful life' Frank Capra and James Stewart
Okay...it is actually coming on Turner Classic movies this month here at home...I love Frank Capra so much!I know the word genuis has been thrown around alot but his films are so humane and quirky...I wish i could create something half as good as a Capra film. You know those films have been rereleased onto dvd this past month.I got hold of It Happened One Night, and i want Mr Smith now!
One of the first artist I looked at when I started painting posters, I have a very large one I painted for the Local Scout Group. Painted by Haddon Sundblom in the 1930s
It's more in the full body with the presents and more of a copy than a pastiche. I did it as a teaching aid coming up to Christmas to get them involved in painting.
I've had a look and I agree, I've been Christmas shopping today and also I've bought some pastels, the last time I used them was ten years ago and I think I'll have a little play with them again.
You don't miss anything, Snow is over rated it's wet, cold and people slip and fall. In Wales it's very wet so when we have frost it's the very pretty type called Haw frost, which is where the white frost goes over every thing like a small snow fall and glitters and shines. I've seen it many times in my life and it's incredible. Also it has great icicles on the houses, walls, trees, branches and electric wires. Very Beautiful.
Funny enough we had snow last night (1 inch) the third fall since November, we don't normally get a snow fall until after January. Four hours and it was all melted then it started raining.
Thank you, 'I think I'm going to like Christmas' a line from my favourite Book and Film 'A Christmas Carol' and the 1968 Film 'Scrooge' with Albert Finney, so can you guess my next father Christmas portrait.
First, mix a thick blob of white, then wait for it almost to dry and use a plastic tooth pick and scrape the white from the blobs centre outward. Try it! it will work.
Yes, because of the number of paintings, I only use tube paints, but I have a pocket set for when I go away. It's different to block colour you can do different effects. I have one quality set and two cheaper sets and a load of minor not set ones like designers flesh colour. Also I have two acrylic sets and a Gouache water colour set. Equipment is everything in the portrait making I have three different sets of watercolour pencils and a selection of wash pencils.
Hehe, can U share? But it's fun to have lot of choices when U paint. I also have a tube set but I have barely used so it must B all dry now... MayB I should have a look at it and see if it can B saved.
