Thank you, it's not just a portrait, its a view of light and shade. Although watercolour is a colourful medium, it can be very dramatic as well for things. To be noticed then Black and white is a great start. I call it contrast, if we look at the paintings coming into the site which ones catch the eye is it the little pale faces or the flamboyant ones large and in your face if I was to teach anything it a two edged thing big and original even if it's just size. I look at how others interpret the face your going to paint or draw would you be happy with their view. I'm glad you like my work and I'm sorry to bore you with my views. :8)

Merci Alain, c'était un morceau de enseignement pour qu'un autre artiste enseigne l'utilisation de la lumière, de l'éclat et de l'obscurité. Également les avantages du fond. :8)

I did not want to paint something as though I was boasting I did it quickly to show the three kinds of light contrast light of dark to slightly less dark. Room light across a portrait cheek to cheek , and eyes shine of spot light. Ok how with the face light just slow build up layering with the eye shine either masking fluid or white paint hear but with drawing it would be cut out with a rubber or masking tape or fluid. Lip shine here was paint the nose, lip rings and eyes shines were tape. The eye shine on a pupil will always look good, here I did it on to grey. Although a black and white looking painting, it has purple blue and grey in it there are three blacks, Ebony, lamp, and a semi black also three greys Payne's light and dark and a light grey. I've tried to explain that even a black and white painting is complicated, but with practice can be quickly done this took 1 hour, it took less time to paint than the time it took to be accepted. Practice, Patience and FUN. :8)

Thank you, it's the little touches that make the work look good. This is about light mainly and whether a painting can match a pencil drawing, what's your opinion does a painting give more of an insight to him. :8)

This is great I really like the shines on the lip and eyes.

 brainfree - 02/04/09, 13:19 reply
Thank you, I used this to teach someone about light and dark, drew and painted it in a morning. Someone said they could not let go of a pencil because they loved the black mono tone look, I this could not be done with painting. So I did it from the begining with a brush. and tones of blue and black. :8) :ok:
