I think I got the eyes right and the scar on the cheek is cool...but I missed everything else.... but...you see...it was like this...from memory...no reference...new technique...sun was in my eyes...yeah! That's it...sun was in my eyes
You know what though? He has Fred Gwynee esque to him,and that is major league cool! And it's pretty damn accurate from memory, that whole effect with his cheek,Karloff had a partial plate and when Jack Pierce was painting him,he popped it out and it gave him that cadaverous sunken appearance.Pierce then shaded around it,ahhhh Universal Horror!!!
Your knowledge of such things is encyclopaedic! I see/saw Fred Gwynne in it too...I was gonna say..."more like Hermann Munster. Get this...I worked with Fred on some radio (late 80s I think it was) - he told a great story: He came home to a message from his Jamaican housekeeper..."Jack Meryl called." He said, "I wracked my brain - Jack? Meryl? Couldn't remember anyone by that name...finally called my agent who said,
'Not Jack Meryl!!! Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep you idiot!! You've got a new movie!!!" I couldn't remember what or whether he even knew the title at the time, so, I looked it up. Ironweed - 1987
Jack Meryl, that's very Herman like, could'nt you see him and Al Lewis or Joe E.Ross incorporating that into Car 54 or the Munsters, that's great! Ironweed, you know i don't think i have ever seen that? I saw Fred in Fatal Attraction, the Cotton Club,Pet Semetary.
Yeah, I sawl those too...and missed Ironwood as well. He had a ton of wit...although it was a phone patch session with him at a Hollywood studio and me in Raleigh, NC, it was fun to talk to him and he did beautiful, melifluous voice overs.
Three 30's in less than an hour for only $1500!!
Yes,that voice!I love the way he changed from the first seaon of Munsters to the second, the first he was very somber and serious and then the genuis of Fred popped out with the nasal voice and the guffaw,he got hold of the nasal tone of speaking from his mother and the laugh froma prop man on set, what a genuis!
Aw...crap! That comment above (on my Karloff page) was meant for you...see... when it's at the bottom of the page, you can't access the Smileys...and then, I can hardly speak!!
