ha! well I don't know about effortlessly D, but after spending about 700 drawing in the past 10 months, I have picked up some speed tricks, and of course, techniques and what steps to do next, etc. I did JP in one night but this one over 2 nights? about 6 hours? Thank you!! To get really Dark blacks, it starts with the paper you you use. If you look at my gallery, you will see a difference when I started using "Strathmore Bristol smooth" paper AFTER Chevy Chase. Click here to see: www.dickblick.com/products/strathmore-300-series-bristol-board-pads/ Bristol smooth is about 3 times thicker than the other drawing papers I had used when I started drawing. 1) Bristol smooth paper. 2) I use a 2B pencil (sharp) and I do little sections at a time, turning the pencil so as always to give a sharp digging feeling, and so it goes deep into the Tooth of the paper. I'd rather press harder with a harder pencil than to go too soft (2B plus) 3) I then take a harder pencil, like HB, F, or H and go over it again. 4) It looks darker in a photo than it really is, so you need to be aware of which direction you are going. Yes I can see that, your early Brad Pitt's background is nothing like as smooth and deep. I've noticed a lot of artists using the Bristol board. (The link doesn't work!) Thanks for the tip about the hard pencil overlay, I haven't tried that yet. Can you explain point 4 again? Sorry to be a pain :blush: :blowkiss:

:oO: just re-read it above? :laugh: no, I get it. Explain a diff way? Just Google "Strathmore Bristol 300 series Smooth" there are lots of places online to order it. Step 4 again, just means that when u see it on this site, it looks perfectly black because it's just a photo of the drawing. The real drawing is good and black, but in the light you can see the direction you used to darken the area in, so if you are doing hair, you want to filll the area in in the direction the hair is going.
