This was harder than I thought it was going to be? I actually had to make the shading darker than the photo, so it didn't look white-washed. I also (re-visited) used some lighter pencils that I hadn't used since I became a Strathmore Bristol smooth paper addict!

Materials: H, HB, F, B & 2B on Strathmore Bristol smooth paper.

Time: 6 hours...with the last 2 hours adjusting the minute tonal values with Blue-tac, Kneaded eraser, tissue paper, Blending stumps, Tortillions, Torchilons, a sponge make-up applicator and a Q-tip! Hell...I'd have used a tampon if gave me the effect I was looking for!

I mean I have done really loose sketches through the years, but for some strange reason, decided to start seriously drawing last year. What is really amazing about this portrait is that Adrien Brody has a very unique face. It can be quite difficult to draw someone with quirky features because sometimes it just ends up looking like you have a problem with perspective, but this is absolutely perfect. BRAVO!
