I do not have much patience with a thing of beauty that must be explained to be understood. If it does need additional interpretation by someone other than the creator, then I question whether it has fulfilled its purpose.
Pray tell, what size are these two latest Chaplins? Are they really done in pencil? They look more like charcoal to me? I think they make a very endearing set and whoever ends up with these hanging on their wall is truly blessed. I love them both John ... well done. No interpretation needed - it's fulfilled it's purpose beautifully.
hi Jeanz! they're tiny - 'bout 6 inches tall - that's 15 cm to most of the world I did a bunch of these - mostly pencil (a 4B Staedtler) some in ink - just haven't gotten around to posting them. I'm making some more wallpaper for a restaurant/bar. I'm thinking I need 9 sepia toned Charlies and a couple of borders and maybe some more quotes from the little Tramp.
Thank you very kindly for your comments!
Wow, thanks for getting back to me in reference to my questions. Great idea for wallpaper for a restaurant/bar! I'm so impressed. Did you study graphic design, or fine art, or whatever at varsity? Must be great making a living out of what you love doing. "Art" is my hobby - no training, (min grey matter ) love it, (the art that is, not the brainlessness), it's what I do to keep me off drugs ... and out of the looney bin ... and off the streets ... and out of mischief - Have a great week (I would so like to see your complete Chaplin collection ... )
My pleasure Jeanz! It's not all fun & games. There's shipping and billing & taxes. One of my best ole writer buddies once said it like this: "Oh, we'd rather be rotting in prison, Or shoveling chicken manure, than making another revision, to another lousy brochure." Oh, and I meant to say; your skills would get you in most anywhere. Just set aside - you know - a quarter of a million
I get where you're headed ... but that's life - the great balance - the yin and yang - the nice and not so nice - the good and not so good. Mmmm, life and it's wicked trickery ! - all in the name of balance! I think that's why I shudder to start taking commissions - 'cause all of a sudden what is total joy soon becomes extreme schlepp (Namibian for "pain in the arse" ). Thank you for your kindness, John. I think you better get cracking with another John Special so that I can start another conversation with you ... ... have a good one!
