Thanks Henri the cheek on the right had to be doctored though it is much more consistant in the original drawing. It is hard to keep the integrity of the piece when copying it for the web site.
I see that the cheek on the right is more smooth than the rest of the piece. I had to modify it to make it look uniform and it is not quite as crisp as the original drawing which is perfect. Good to hear from you Anne. I love your work and look forward to more from you dear!!!
i like this tehnique and even if it's different it is still like your style to me really beautiful and very interesting
like the way you did her skin , so cool
Thanks Ajaa I am glad you liked the white on black it was fun and challenging and I am always trying new techniques. I will be watching for more of your nice works too!!!
Wow, nice black and white pastel creation from my versatile friend Christine ... still keeping me surprised, inspired and overawed!!! This is beautiful Christine!!!
Thanks it is always good to hear from you dear Shahin. Doing the white to black is good for studying the structure of the face. Hopefully I will continue to improve. That is the real point isn't it. Hey that JR is really a pro isn't he????
This is a fast medium and it is really not too hard to do. You should try it just don't post if you don't like the results. You may be surprised though it is fun.
Lise please try to do Barbara this way I will be waiting and watching for a nice negative White to black from you. This was done on black paper with chalk white charcoal and some white colored pencil. I did find out though while fixing it I lost some of the chalk it faded. So I will go back into the portrait with some white paint and see if that revitalizes it.
I have made that discovery with these type of drawings, also. Now I just slide it into my art portfolio book, so it won't get smeared when viewed. Someday I may decide to frame any that I really want to preserve.
I am going to try to do a portrait on gray paper using both white and black maybe that will give me the volume of value I am seeking. I know with pencil I do tend to be too light and then with the white on black the other extreem occurs. I know some people here have succeeded in getting that subtle but learned effect. Back to the drawing board once again!!!
