Thanks, Jeanette. I once had a fight with another girl (1st grade, I think). She said that Jane Withers was prettier than Shirley Temple. I took exception to that. The next thing she knew, I had pushed her to the ground and was sitting on top of her, telling her I wouldn't let her up until she took back what she had said. Fortunately, a teacher broke us up before either of us was hurt, and we became best of friends after that. True story.
I am glad it turned out that way; for us to be good friends. She still liked Jane and I still liked Shirley.
Jeanette, are you drawing your portraits "free-handed"? I used to, but couldn't come close to getting a likeness. May I suggest that you get a light-box at your Arts & Crafts store. I did, and it has been an excellent tool. The one I use is an Artograph Lightracer. You will be surprised at how much it helps.
Merci beaucoup, Jessie. I looked for Swiss on the translator, but didn't see it, so I chose German. I can use French with the translator, if that is easier for you, than English.
Yes they speak French in Swiss Romande and the Swiss-German-speaking Swiss Alémanique .. I live in Western Switzerland so I speak French! but you can talk to me in English!
Thanks, Helen. Shirley's part in the movie, Heidi, was an early influence upon me. I have always been interested in Switzerland, ever since I read that book and saw that movie. Now Urs just adds to the magic. What little I've seen of that country, I loved. I would love to go there and spend a summer sometime, but know I never will.
Amen, to what you have said, Helen. What do you wanna bet that there are more hunks in Switzerland, every bit as talented and good-looking as those two. Let me know when you are ready to go, and I will bring my camera!! HH
LOL Wouldn't that be a spectacle, the two of us ogling those youthful Swiss hunks? Liable to forget all about that country's magnificent scenery! Sounds like a heck-of a-good-thing, though.
Thanks Christine! You will probably surpass me!!! What has helped me to improve, aside from more practice, is that I have my own work area now. Before, when I wanted to draw, I used our breakfast room's table, with overhead light fixture. I sat upon a step stool with a cushion placed on the top step. Althought that was the highest seat in our house, I still was only level with my work. Now I have a workstation (arts & craft table with board that tilts). The table has a tray on each side of the board for pencils, erasers, etc., and two, triple drawer bins beneath, one on each side, for more storage. I now have a clip-on halogen lamp that tilts and moves. So much better now for my tired, old eyes.
I draw in my downstairs retreat a nice artists table with a nice clip on light like yours and lots of shelves it is away from the main level of the house and completely seperate no phone etc. Just me and some of the boys music and other very nice classical background music as well. A true aritsts get a way!!!!!
Well, there you go , Christine. You already have an ideal setup, which explains why you have such an interesting gallery. I listen to music for Relaxation (mostly Classical/Instrumental) misic while drawing. But, since my drawing area is in our den, Ed is sometime watch TV on our large screen set. If the show bothers me, I get my iPod and listen to Il Divo and the other music I have recorded on it.
Many thanks.

Shirley Temple is a sweetheart. My husband held a door open for her at a Hollywood Canteen back in the late 40's. He said she was a lovely lady, and I am sure she still is. She is still alive. I am going to bed now. It is already after 1:00 AM. I will answer my other mail later today.
Thanks. Shirley certainly was everyone's darling as a child. She looks as though she has been reprimanded for something she didn't do in my picture, doesn't she?
