Ernesto Rafael Guevara de la Serna, commonly known as Che Guevara or el Che, was an Argentinian-born Marxist revolutionary and Cuban guerrilla leader. Guevara was a member of Fidel Castro's 26th of July Movement that seized power in Cuba in 1959. After his death, Guevara became an icon of socialist revolutionary movements worldwide, perhaps in part because of an arresting visual image based on a photograph by Alberto Korda and a generally romanticised image.
