Edward Arnold

(February 18, 1890 - April 26, 1956)

Edward Arnold is best remembered as an in-demand character actor of film from the 1930 to 1950s, although he occasionally had leading roles early in his career. His large frame and commanding voice made him an ideal actor for roles that called for judges, detectives, corrupt mob bosses, and politicians. Some of his best known roles were in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), The Devil and Dan Webster (1941), and Eyes in the Night (1942). From 1947-1953, he starred in the ABC radio program Mr. President.
