Gail Russell

(September 21, 1924 - August 26, 1961)

Beautiful but shy, Gail Russell was a popular leading film actress of the 1940s. Her first major role was as Stella Meredith in the haunted house classic The Uninvited (1944). During the rest of the decade she worked with top stars John Wayne, Alan Ladd, John Payne, and Edward G. Robinson. Unfortunately, she turned to alcohol in an attempt to curb her stage fright and it ultimately destroyed her career, personal life and health. Gail had a brief comeback in the mid-late 1950s, most notably in Seven Men from Now (1956).
