Nicolas Sarkozy is the current President of France. He was elected President of the French Republic on 6 May 2007 after defeating Socialist Party contender Ségolène Royal during the 2007 election. Before his presidency, he was leader of the UMP right wing party. Sarkozy is known for his conservative stance on law and order issues and his admiration for a new economic model for France.
