I read a documentary book named morality in Victorian and Edwardian era and surprised to see those ladies and gentlemen in 19 and first decades of 20 centuries weren't so chaste and unaware of bodily pleasures! in fact they were more mischievous than us in many aspects.
So it sounds like fishnet may not have been out of the question then? I believe what you read! When ever you want someone to do something, just tell them NOT to do it?!? If I want you to look through a hole in my fence, all I need to do is hang a sign over the hole saying, "DO NOT LOOK THROUGH THIS HOLE!!!"
I read in the book that revealing of only a small part above the foot of a lady was sufficient to make a Victorian era gentleman crazy, passionate and out of control. think what they did if they see the fishnet!
you explained the philosophy of fishnet correctly ! it is a word with two meanings. a net for catching fishes and in the other shape, for catching men!
