Thank you, the colours I choose because of the reflection. The light blue undercolour looks so much better, it had the likeness almost perfect! then I added more colour and it slipped away a little. :8)

 Nihale - 10/09/09 à 23:17 répondre
I guess those colours don't exist in the original photo, it's your pure choice! you have a great imagination and taste!! it's not easy to imagine a skin with red, yellow, and blue; but you did! and the result's perfect!!  *xD

 brainfree - 10/09/09 à 23:22 répondre
Well the original photo is quite out there! perhaps not the same colours but out there. :8)

 Nihale - 10/09/09 à 23:38 répondre
Anyway, I like your choice of colours in all your works; this is what distinguishes most your original style    :hi:

Thank you, it looks so great but it's so easy. First when planning make sure you put a tonal background in behind where the smoke is going to be, the secret is use a little acrylic here it was pink to completely a little watercolour then when you come to painting in with the smoke in those areas where it goes over the acrylic parts it will not mix in and stay crisp. At the end take a little acrylic grey and make small edging strokes. Easy after a lot of practice. You can play with it but knowing when to stop is also a skill. Have a go it scary to start but becomes more addictive than pencil as there are perhaps 20 pencil types the are hundreds of colours and thousands of tones what ever you can see can be painted not always the same with pencil. Although I love pencil and shading it is a great teacher for portraits after pencil comes the world of chalk then paint. Brian. :8)

Thank you very much :ok:I will give it a shot, would be great to be able to paint smoke on many occations :) :) :) I have tried doing a drawing and posted it in my gallery, maybe you could check it out and give me some pointers as to what do different the next time. I can see that the shading needs alot of improvement   I would really appreciate your comment :hi: :ok: :blowkiss:Annett

Ok I have just been there I hope you don't mind an old man views I can be long winded given the chance I love all art from Oil to watercolour from chalk to pencil. I have done them all! My main thing now is watercolour. Brian. :8)

Thanx so much for taking the time :) :) :blowkiss:I love oilpainting, but have been trying drawing since I can do that anywhere, without a lot of equipment. We spend our weekends at the cabin, and it is small and crowded. Apiece of paper and some pencils I can get away with   :8)Annett :blowkiss:

 brainfree - 12/09/09 à 10:58 répondre
A piece of heavy paper, graphite block and three pencils these make a great drawer. The Pencils are 2B, 5B 9B and the graphite block is 4B it measures 5 mm X 5mm X 200mm and is great for shading big areas as it is Uniformaly spread. Also not to forget a masking tape and Putty Rubber. Mine are all kept in a little tin box that I take on Holiday or when I go out for the day. :8)

Wow , really good , i always see so many emotions in your portraits , some of them are not like i think i guess but i can see that in this one jonathan looks sad and desperate , something is bothering him , that's my point of view , i don't know why so :D i have a question again about colors , you used yellow in this one and you used a little bit blue color tone to do skin , why is that so ? :) i am interested about colors , that's why i again asked about colors :D oh and why you chose this kind of photo do paint ? :) really interesting , love those mysterious colors , really great blending , there is something which just make me wonder . really special , very beautiful , love that smoke :)

 brainfree - 10/09/09 à 09:11 répondre
Thank you, light blue is always my base for the shadow or in pencil the shading. Any colour applied in the correct tone can look right, Why use the blue tone because it was the original colour and they emotion colour. I try not to paint photo's now all the time I use them for reference or as a helper but try to change the portrait to my way of looking at it this is why some times I paint more than one painting of the same person say Duffy or Jonathan. The most important thing to remember is that we are people and not machines so a little difference ( like with your own work is OK) is allowed because it’s all art. Feelings or emotions how does it make you feel have you conveyed the feelings to another person. At the start of your answer or comment you say he looked sad or desperate this was my goal to transfer this more than the likeness. Great your thinking and this will come through in you work not today but one day. Brian The smoke I've answered above. :8)

thank you so much for answering my questions , it helped to understand a lot :) i think it's really cool that you change colors , because it's really original too :) and i love what you told about emotions . you bring emotions to stand out :)

 brainfree - 10/09/09 à 23:30 répondre
Yes, I hope so it's emotion and the way we respond to them is what makes us Good or Bad. :8) :)
