I think painting to request is a great skill you have control over the way it's seen but not the subject. Here I have had a little thing bugging me about how some artist want to paint every thing as though it is a wall again 70% of this painting is white paper I do pull some white base colour over it so if I add a small amount of say yellow it is just a hint, the left eye is conmplely there under that hair or is it? The secret of making people see what you want them to see. I love painting and drawing all art is a wonderful thing. Brian

Thank you, it's in my style to be clean very planned I have steps of painting I start with the concept drawing, then first undercoat normall blue, Then the colour basic the the last finishing coat of contrast. Saying all that this painting had no undercoat just start in with a very light true colours to keep it fresh very little drawing to keep it simple but the simple things are sometimes the hardess to do. I think I use Watercolour in a better way once the likness is captured I find the paint the easy bit.
Thank you for the response! I find watercolours a bit hard to control. I don't know how to blend the colours well as you can only go from light to dark. I've just discovered for myself how important it is to leave certain parts of the picture white or with little colour in order to create a good contrast.
I love the transparent look of watercolours which is why I would like to learn this techinque.
There are three types of water soluble paint theirs Watercolour, Acrylic and Gouache paint also there is translucent watercolour I paint with watercolour and translucent watercolour. Although I use them all at sometime or other. The watercolour paint contain colour dye and white paint even in black this gives the paint a opaque look it can be see in the bottom of a dirty water jar if it has stood for a while is a white or dark chalky powder. Translucent paint is just dye and no opaque base so why and how does that help well firstly it makes thing dry lighter and fade as years go by. For example when using a wet on wet technique with my translucent colours they are fabulous. Where can I buy them well I but them from a shop but I’ve asked how to get hold of them because their rare. Their made by a firm called SCOLA Manor lane, Holmes Chapel, Chapel, Cheshire, CW4 8BG UK their called Concentrated watercolour and their a powder. Which you mix. These are my secret paints giving wonderful results. Brian
Thank you, light and soft but with plenty of feeling it took a little thought but I'm running on gold at the moment and seem to be finding the insperation I seek. I hope it lasts as it comes and goes sometimes it seems great then goes for a while. Thats why I call it magic. Brian

i like avril and your portrait of her is so beautiful , i like these colors , there are warm colors and cold colors and you have mixed them together , love pink and purple in her lips , lips are very glossy too
and that blueis perfect choice , there is a deepness in her eye

Thank you, good drawing and a lot of planning. I set a few things before starting soft, light but with good shadow also I looked at the others in the gallery and saw none with my twist. All the things you decribe are easy once done more thamn ten times each time I learn better ways of doing thing some times they work sometimes they just missed here I wanted simple drawing. My next few are simple drawings so I hope yet again to more the next to your favourite. My only problem is fining new insperation away from my old mind. Brian.

Thank you, I made it for you no big secrets just a good concept and a good drawing. I'm working on a bit of a roll at the moment. I have a lot of very good pre-paint drawings waiting painting. and they seem to look very good if you can judge pre-paint. You are quite capable of painting this way only change your pre set mind rules make them up as you go along not all portraits have to be full face as long as the concept is good the painting will be be positive and use your good qualities. I did it to show it does not have to be a perfect likeness or have gallons of paint to make it look right. Brian.

Not very well at the moment so a bit of a delay I've done an interesting drawing and a half of a painting. I'll be a day or two before the obsession kicks in again.

I think like all men we are interested more in how and women in what they feel it is good to open yourself to softer things I for many years could not draw women hard to believe now but I was to heavy and had to learn to paint light almost painting searching only for likeness when found I then stopped.
I fully agree with you and I believe too that women are interesting to draw and trying to transmit feelings and sensations in drawings is instructive. Sometimes pictures are better than words!!
