Portrait du jour (20/12/07)

Wesley Snipes, my first oil painting! Learning the technique and the paint. I was persuaded by a friend to try it and I think I did a good job on this one for the first time.

Wesley Snipes as the Daywalker (half human, half vampire) in the movie "Blade"

Canvas 50 x 50 cm

AH!!! OUI!!!! EXCELLENT.SUPERBE!!! MAIS POURQUOI EN '''BLEU"" ? JP.

 Mariette - 20/12/07 à 18:26 répondre
Merci beaucoup JPS. J'adore ta gallerie aussi. Sorry, have to go on in english :/ The blue colours is how it turned out. In reality, the colours are more darker. Making good photographs is also an art  and I'm not very good at it. I think he also would have looked good in gray (black/white) colours. Thanks for your reaction :ok:

 JPS - 20/12/07 à 19:39 répondre
YES!!!! To my opinion your drawing is magnificent and he(it) shall have was of advantage in black and white.. JP.

 Mariette - 20/12/07 à 19:45 répondre
Yes you are right about that, but the picture I used had also a little blue in it. The contrasts could be bigger, that's true. But this was my first project in oilpaint, so I had to learn about the paint and the technique. And I was already pleased with how it came out. I'm still learning...Mariette

 JPS - 20/12/07 à 20:16 répondre
He is all the same magnificent..... Soon maybe I shall make one too but in BLACK and WHITE naturally!!!! Thank you and bravo still. JP.

 Mariette - 20/12/07 à 21:46 répondre
Well, I'm looking forward to it. I'm very curious but I bet he would be great too. Thanks JP and let me know when he is ready. ;) By the way, did you see my portrait of Mika? There is one in black and white.  :hi:

hello Mariette ...! This Wesley Snipe version in blue give to this painting a dramatic accent of reality ... It's intense and deep like WS ... I wish for you a very nice and happy new year 2008 Bye !!! Mitia

 Mariette - 06/01/08 à 00:07 répondre
Wow...Hi Mitia! Thank you very much for your nice comment :blush:I'm proud of this first portrait in oil. I was figuring out the technique and the paint. When I should have to paint him now, I probably would make the colours darker with bigger contrasts. But I'm glad you like him this way. Means a lot to hear this from another great artist. I like a lot of your portraits. I left you some comments as you probably saw :ok: And for you also the best wishes for 2008 and a lot of inspiration for your drawings. Keep going on  :hi:

Wow! Indrukwekkend!

;) :hi:

 jpoulos2561 - 06/06/08 à 19:05 répondre
I thought I had commented on this work. I have admired it many times and agree with all the comments here regarding the reflection and particularly the color! It's inspired. I had an instructor in freshman drawing class who cautioned us all not to be afraid of color. He had a dim opinion of the average kindergarten teacher who stifles the children by telling them that a horse cannot be blue....what would Chagall say?!

 Mariette - 06/06/08 à 20:20 répondre
I'm really glad that you like it this way. But I must admit that this colour wasn't chosen by knowledge :blush:I was figuring out the oilpaint and how it reacts when you mix the colours together. By now I know, but that was my first experience with the paint and the technique. And I must say I was surprised that it came out this way and that I made it!! I was very proud of it then and still. Especially when you are regarding that I am an amateur who is learning it all by myself. This technique I learned in a couple of hours with a little help from a friend who already painted this way (ellyhalfers, she is a member on this site too) And I must agree with you, art is something in my opinion if it is surprising and attracking the attention. And to me that is when there is something different in it. I like surrealisme and popart too. Dali, Warhol and Escher to call a couple of names...Mariette :)

Thank YOU!! My first oil paint. Never touched this paint before, so I was experiencing everything. I was very surprised by the result and very proud of myself. You can see, after this one, I made a few paintings more in oil. And now it's my favourite paint to work with. Thanks again :blowkiss: :hi:...Mariette
