Participation au jeu : Guitares

What better for the game about guitars than someone who used one to create music that would define a generation. Nirvana’s iconic sound and guitar riffs instantly take me back to my youth in a way no other band can. Gone too soon, and it’s my belief that the evidence proves it wasn’t by his own hand. But, we may never know for sure.

I feel like we’re in a place technology-wise right now where “digital” comes with a connotation, and a preconceived idea of a certain style...cartoon or comic style, bright colors, etc. To be honest sometimes I don’t know how to categorize myself because although I do most of my work digitally I call myself a traditional artist because I work almost exclusively in traditional mediums on a digital platform. When I first got into digital art my intentions were to digitally color hand drawings, I never foresaw myself actually drawing digitally. Now I simply find it easier than having to get supplies out and making sure I have all my pencils, paper, and whatever else. In the near future paper and pens will be universally replaced by tablets and digital pencils, “Traditional” and “digital” are no longer mutually exclusive. Though I’m guilty of it myself, perhaps the stigma applied to digital art has now become totally irrelevant and it is time to rethink how we view it in the art community!

Your point of view is totally understandable. But let's face it, what you manage to do is anything but obvious. I've seen artwork by many digital artists, but I can count those who do digital stuff with a traditional media feel on my fingers, it's something that either artists can do or they can't. I tend to disagree on the fact that digital drawing will eventually replace traditional media and make them disappear, here's why, and of course it's only my opinion. Say that traditional drawing is like playing acoustic guitar, and digital drawing like playing electric guitar. If I ask you how many guitarists manage to produce acoustic-like sound with an electric guitar, I'm sure you won't think of many as it's two different types of sound and two different ways of playing. Well, I'd say that traditional drawing vs digital drawing is pretty much the same. It can be annoying to handle supplies, paper, pencils and all the mess that goes along with them, yet ultimately it's a different experience than using hardware and software. And perhaps, just like electric guitar players (among which Kurt Cobain  ) occasionally go unplugged to feel more complete as musiciens, a complete artist nowadays needs to cover the whole range from traditional to digital. There again, no idea how relevant my impression is, but I've seen various artists try both traditional and digital art, some eventually opted for traditional art, others for digital art, based on what felt like home to them, and perhaps that this question of doing what feels like home is the main thing. Favorite tools of trade vary from one person to another, and technological progress only means more tools and more options among which to choose what we feel comfortable with. :cute:
