i think this digital stuff should have a site of it's own. It's too easy

 latroche - 06/05/08 à 13:43 répondre
i'm agree with you !!

 daisie - 06/05/08 à 15:57 répondre
Ditto...have you considered forwarding this to the site moderator?? Btw, cheaters do get kicked off..remember s..purple...rose? :berk:

 jbancroft - 08/05/08 à 19:04 répondre
i'm not saying this person "cheated", afterall, it IS labeled "digital". I just don't think digitals should be next to hand-made works

 AlleyCatz - 12/05/08 à 21:00 répondre
This painting is also hand made work, don't you count sketching and painting it as hand work? The only difference it is done on a pc screen, you still have to draw, mix your colours and paint.

 jbancroft - 06/06/08 à 06:43 répondre
yeah. it's obviously not the same thing. Ever see someone else's work where they do both free-hand stuff AND digital? why is it that the digital is always 100 times better than the free-hand stuff? hmmm....

 AlleyCatz - 07/06/08 à 12:27 répondre
The difference for me is, I like to draw my picture or project from scratch, not trace it over as I love the challenge of getting the features right, or as some of the other artists do by painting over a photo and make it off as their own, that is very easy to do but it feels like cheating. Everbody can say they are an artist when doing that, but it is just not right. I am a traditional artist as well who switched over to digital a year ago and am loving it very much. So yes, I am an artist who works freehandedly, drawing the portrait from scratch and scanning it into the pc, to paint it. Does that explain anything?

 AlleyCatz - 07/06/08 à 12:32 répondre
Google the name Jeremy Sutton, a very well known, well respected digital artist, I believe you will get a total different view on digital art from real "non cheating" artists. Take care.

 jbancroft - 08/05/08 à 19:05 répondre
by the way, i DID ask the moderators about seperating the media types and they said you already CAN do that. I suppose they mean in the advanced search feature? --not exactly what i had in mind

 daisie - 09/05/08 à 04:25 répondre
I completely concur :toc:

 AlleyCatz - 12/05/08 à 21:24 répondre
It is clear that you do not know anything about digital art, which is a real pity, because you can accuse innocent people.

 daisie - 13/05/08 à 01:31 répondre
Your portrait is beautiful and I don't think you're a cheater, neither did the other poster. Please read the posts CAREFULLY before getting mad. My conversation was to jbancroft, not to you. The cheater was s..purple...rose who got kicked off. Your were never implicated, so just relax, sit back and enjoy all the nice compliments.

 AlleyCatz - 13/05/08 à 06:29 répondre
Oh I'm sorry for misreading your comments, but don't you think you should have taken your comments about cheaters elsewhere instead of doing it on a portrait that was chosen as portrait of the day? It was inappropriate to my work, therefore I got upset as I am a well known traditional artist who just started out in digital art, therefore it is my prerogative to get upset with such unwelcome comments on my work. It is hard work to get a celebrity to actually look like the celebrity when you do it freehandedly. Maybe you should propose to the moderator to start a forum where you can discuss these kind of cheaters and not on a portrait from another artist. I am sure that you would also be upset if I left these kind of comments on your art to another artist. Frankly, you fueled the other artists comments with your negative remarks. You should have stated in your comments that your remarks are not directed at me. Take care.

 daisie - 13/05/08 à 13:02 répondre
You really have to read before you vent...None of my "offending" comments related to your work..read again. I was HELPING you by directing him to forward his idea (ie separate site for digital stuff) to the moderator ie not to bother artists like yourself. Additionally, I was reassuring him that cheater do get kicked off, ie lay off people such as yourself who are not cheaters. He also stated that you and yours are not considered "cheaters" since your work IS labeled "digital". Anyways, just take it easy.

 AlleyCatz - 13/05/08 à 16:48 répondre
I'm totally at ease, believe me. And I was not mad or vented, I just stated the obvious, that is all. I will not go much further into this but all I have to say is, think before you leave such comments on a persons gallery, whether it is directed to them or not, as it can be misconstrued as I did and therefore cause much embarrassment for both parties. Take care.

 AlleyCatz - 12/05/08 à 20:53 répondre
Wow! I've been away a while and this is what I see. How can you say I cheated? Is this because of total jealousy or what? By the way, I do not know where you come in with your cheating, I sketched and painted her from the start. I am glad that you guys think it is easy, believe me, it is not. Take care

 AlleyCatz - 12/05/08 à 20:54 répondre
Please tell me how I cheated, it would be interesting to know.

 AlleyCatz - 12/05/08 à 20:55 répondre

ive beendigitally colouring my own drawings of late .something i thought i,de like to learn to do. and must say . IT,S NOT EASY> so each to their own . but some do just colour over an existing photo , which is cheating . especially when its not stated as what it really is, an overlay. why cant folk just be honest . not that i,m saying ally is not being coz if she drew the original sketch , this is a fabulous peice of artwork and should be seen as such. digitally or otherwise.

 AlleyCatz - 12/05/08 à 22:38 répondre
Thank you very much for your comment, I really appreciate it. I also know there are artists out there who cheats by just colouring photos and then make it off as their own work, and that is definitely cheating. The thing is, they will never know the real satisfaction your get out of creating your own work from scratch, and that is what I enjoy. I also wish that other artists will give some of us the benefit of the doubt before calling us cheaters, especially when they know nothing about digital art. Fortunately for me, I know I am not a cheater and everything I do is with my own hand, although reference from a photo, but never painted over. ;) Thank you once again.

 ledonk - 12/05/08 à 23:02 répondre
that is why ive got my original drawings still on here so that a comparison can be made , perhaps the doubters should try and digitally colour their own drawings to see how good or bad they get on . must say i get more satisfaction from water colours , but this way you can colour a pic without ruining the original , as i did with my pic of kylie, i much preferred it as a drawing. so doubters heres a challenge have a go colour you drawings digitally , see how you get on . i must say though that some of the cheaters should be reported and removed as seems to have happend to one person just recently.

 AlleyCatz - 13/05/08 à 06:34 répondre
I totally agree with you. I also propose that a forum should be created where people can discuss a cheater if they want and not on a gallery of another artist as it happened to me. I would love to see how they colour digitally since that can recognize a "cheater" so easily. But is it also not about the colouring, it is about getting the composition right and have your sketch actually look like the real celeb, that is where all the hard work lies. I have been painting portraits traditionally since I can remember when and believe me, I still make a lot of boo-boos. Yes, the cheaters should be reported as they are truly ruining it for real artists.

 jbancroft - 24/07/08 à 21:37 répondre
wow your whole comments section has been taken over by talk of "cheating". It seems though that you're doing more posting than anyone else, so maybe you aren't helping that issue? My original comment is based on your artwork. Your few scetches you have up (pencil) aren't nearly as good as the ones you digitally altered. I've seen this time and time again (especially here on this site). An average-good drawer goes digital and becomes great-amazing. THAT is the reason diital stuff should be seperated from others. I don't know if you digitally painted over photos or not. I know some others have that i've recently called out and have now been banned.

 AlleyCatz - 27/07/08 à 15:30 répondre
My comments were posted a long time ago therefore the issue is done with. I suggest you move on as well. :)

 jbancroft - 04/08/08 à 10:40 répondre
well it took me so long to respond simply because I wasn't on this site to check your messages. ...NOT because i've been thinking about it this whole time. And if anyone really wants to see what a difference digital work can make, they'd just have to compare your digital work to your sketches. No offense, but your sketches don't get too many comment compared to your digital stuff

 AlleyCatz - 16/08/08 à 19:48 répondre
No offense taken. I agree with you, I am simply much better at painting traditionally and digitally than just sketching with pencils which is not what I enjoy much. I like painting much more, the use of rich colour and adding detail. Now, please, get over it will you, and move on. I will not hold it against you. So relax and NO, i also do not expect you to keep thinking about it the whole time. In fact, I do not care a hoot what you think. Take care.
