Melissa Benoist starred as Kara Danvers on the CBS and CW television series “Supergirl“ for 6 seasons, from 2015 to 2021. At the 2016 People’s Choice Awards, “Supergirl“ won as Favorite New Television Drama, and at the 2017 Saturn Awards, Melissa won as Best Actress On A Television Series. Melissa‘s first major role was as Marley Rose, on the Fox television musical drama series “Glee”.
Thank you very much, Dasee! This is the only drawing I have done of Melissa, and hope I can someday give this drawing to her, maybe at a celebrity convention. I think Melissa occasionally appears at conventions in the Los Angeles area.
Merci beaucoup, Mentine! I drew this about four years ago, and it is my favorite pencil portrait drawing, mostly because of Melissa’s long windblown hair.
Thank you, armattock! Of my Top Ten favorite actresses, Melissa Benoist is the youngest of the group. I hope she continues her acting career for decades to come.
Merci beaucoup, Framy! This drawing is 19”x 24” and is on Strathmore Bristol Smooth Surface paper. I remember when actress Helen Slater starred in the 1984 movie, Supergirl. The Supergirl movie did not do very well at the theaters, but both Helen and Melissa are very fine actresses. 6 years ago, when I saw Melissa on television wearing her Supergirl uniform, I wanted to try and draw her, wearing the uniform. Melissa looked so beautiful.
Thank you, Killgor! I was hoping a seventh season of Supergirl would have been approved by the CW, but the show did have a very successful 6 year run. One of my favorite scenes was in the Season 3 episode “Girl of Steel”, when Supergirl abandoned a bad guy on a container ship, far out at sea.
I am going to attempt to draw Melissa again wearing her Supergirl uniform, this time in color, using Prismacolor pencils. Melissa is just too beautiful to draw only once. Then I plan to attempt drawing an actress I somehow unfortunately overlooked during the last 20 years; the very lovely and very talented Jennifer Garner. It will be a while before I can draw Candice.
Merci beaucoup, lpc! I love your oil portraits of Eli Wallach and Clint Eastwood from the Sad Hill Cemetery scene. A masterpiece by Sergio Leone. Another great film of Sergio’s is “A Fistful of Dynamite”.
Merci beaucoup, lhommeloiret! I am going to try a color pencil portrait of Melissa wearing her very colorful Supergirl uniform. I am going to use illustration board because the paper I use for my pencil drawings is too thin for color pencils. I have been looking at tutorials on the Internet on how to create smooth skin tones using color pencils. Drawing skin tones in color is where I have had difficulty.
Thank you, Mike! This drawing of Melissa has a lot of dark gray areas, and the thin paper had to handle many applications of lead over the same areas. In 1991, I ruined a portrait drawing when a small area on the face collapsed because I made too many applications over the same area with one of the harder lead pencils, a 2H. A small but noticable dark area was visible on the actress‘ face, and I had to start over again; the drawing was about 60% complete when it happened. I have since been more careful, and use the softer, less abrasive B and 2B pencils.
Thank you, HamburgGirl! The dark gray background with the light gray spots is meant to be trees and bushes behind Melissa in the distance. I remember all the cramps I would get in my hand trying to give the background a smooth appearance by rubbing the lead applications, over and over again, with t-shirt and chamois cloths. The background took a long time to finish.
Thank you, HamburgGirl! I am going to try and estimate how many hours I have spend drawing, starting from when I was 10 years old. That was when I started drawing a lot after school and during the evenings. I remember I did not study very much.

That would be great!

Stunning, realistic

Merci beaucoup, Mellody! La raison pour laquelle ce dessin est si grand est que je voulais que tout le logo de Supergirl soit visible le dessin.
Truly gorgeous portrait

Can you do a sketch portrait of Candice Swanepoel in lingerie for me because I would appreciate this a lot from you?

Outstanding job with those pencils! Love the silky effect of her superhero uniform.

I can see how that would be a danger with pencil and paper.

So fantastic and realistic artwork!

I believe that! I recently read that you have to invest 10,000 hours in something to be really good at it. I think you are already at ths point!

As good as a photo. Excellent.
Thank you, Eddy! This drawing of Melissa took a lot of patience. I remember having difficulty with the shapes of the big “S” on her uniform.
The curves.
Happy birthdfay

Thank you, Claire! I will post another portrait drawing soon. It has been 2 months since my last post.
