French ballerina Aurelie Dupont dancing the role of Odette in Swan Lake.
11x14 inches
Aurelie was one of the Paris Opera Ballet's brightest stars for many years, holding the rank of Étoile from 1998 until her retirement from the stage in 2015.
Thank you, Framy We all have our favorites of course, and in some I know you and I coincide I like quite a lot of ballerinas but for many different reasons (and some I don't like). To me, Dupont brought a unique finesse (for lack of a better word), something "extra" in some of her interpretations that can make a comic passage very funny indeed and make an emotional passage really very touching at times. Probably my favorite among the French stars was Elisabeth Platel, but she is from an earlier time.
Yes, you're right with her interpretation. But for me, I prefer Monique Loudières, Noëlla Pontois or Alice Renavand more little in size but for me, more believable in classic roles...and Maria Khoreva definitively in many classic ballets. Maria has a big talent to be (not interprete) Gisele, or Aurora, or Odette, or Clara, or Paquita or Kitri, Raymonda. I forget the dancer to see just the character. And this is her magic power.
Elizabeth Platel ok, when she was very young with first interpretations because in the last years she was ballerina star, she didn't touch me with her interpretation so theoric and so slow, not with joy and passion. In the same generation I prefer Sylvie Guilhem.
I think Platel was not suited to every role but in some roles she was beyond spectacular. She was an exceptionally clean dancer and could produce a poise and posture that was incredibly stately, dignified, and elegant. Sometimes this can look too cold or stilted for a character, but in other roles it is perfect. For example, her Grand Pas Classique is the best I have ever seen. No one can beat her in that. So I love her not necessarily for everything, but for what she did best.
Dear friend Scotty me I love the gestures of the ballets, like the gestures of the Shaolin monks because it is an art, I love your choice for the ballets because you are a fan and other choices, I think you even saw "Black Swan". : hi: hi: hi: hi: hi: hi: thumbup: thumbup: thumbup: thumbup: thumbup:
Thank you my friend. I love the gestures, too. With both the ballet and the Shaolin monks, it's amazing control of the body, practiced until it is perfectly fluid and graceful. As balanced and adept as a cat. Yes, I have seen "Black Swan" - it's a very controversial movie among ballet people, because as they say "ballet life is not like that". They don't like the untrue negative depiction. But then I think Hollywood is not known for being true to life.

Très élégant et le choix de geste et la couleur!!!!

Merci beaucoup, Tony! With this gesture, I hope she can be both the swan in the moonlight and the star in the spotlight, so that is my attempt.
