How do you get that effect with watercolor?? Fabulous!!

 brainfree - 26/06/08 à 11:37 répondre
Thank you, First I draw the subject with watercolour pencil no detail. Next Wash a few layers of colour onto face, always outwards to edge of paper. Next detail hair, sometimes I'll do main hair colour with acrylic paint, as it’s easier to lay on highlight colour, on the fixed base colour and will not colour move. Eyes which is what you like, nearly always I do last. Iris always slightly different colours the Pupil is nearly always black, it’ s learned technique. Take a Medium brush, dip in water place circle of eye covering mainly the iris part make it really watery, the watery paint will then move around or soak in repeat if not watery. Then as it moves you take the brush blunt end and move it yourself. Repeat until done being careful to not over work. Part one

Part Two. Then paint in when dry the black pupil successively I’m painting the black in at the start with acrylic and waiting for it to dry. Now the hard bit you have to do this with both eyes at the same time or they look different and that's the skill. At the end of the painting the shine or white light mark either with acrylic or water colour. I also spray or paint on a varnish sometimes to get shine. Other areas are treated the same and Hair, lips and nostrils. I have many skills techniques and Tricks all of these are for different effects. When doing Iris colour I’ve put washing up liquid, and olive oil in water or the paint. With watercolour it always dries lighter, so I paint a menu on a plate and wet parts when I want their pre-mixed. I hope it helps you. Ten years of experiments, and picking up tips. :)

Thank you, I always have a look the Gallery of the people contacting me. Your improvement from Dec 07 to Tom Kaulitz is really incredible. I if I’m honest have improved in the last six months to. My favourite painter is Frenchman Edgar Degas. He said 'art is not what you see, but what you make others see'! This is a great secret what it means is you don’t have to paint everything just enough to get the likeness. Old Dougie here is a good looking guy as long as I keep the painting very light and use the many easy techniques have: hair, skin, eyes, lips all simple but once learnt everybody is painted the same. Keep drawing and then painting try to become a paid artist as theirs no better way of making a living. Lastly don't get hooked on painting the same subject "Variety is" and all that. :)
