I am using a smooth smudge stick for graphite and powdered graphite. I also paint over the fur with lighter fluid to make it darker in some areas. I have bought some pipe cleaners and bent them to make a kind of smudge tool it works pretty well on hair and fur with the graphite powder. Experiment and have fun!!!!!!
