Thank you I like this one for the reason that when painting say about six people you with out a break can become a little jaded or bored and this was perfect for me a let my hair done speed painting so the first sketch was quick then I found I had to paint in all that white on top of the blue this took ages so the non coplicated one became complicated.
Thank you, My favourite, as I let myself go a bit mad and free! it was easier than it looked, but took ages to finish. This and the lion are my favourites as they took so long with the detail involved.
Thank you, a complete orgininal piece. thought it would be simple but then I had to paint white onto blue mind I think the 1hour this took was worth it.
Thank you, it can vary this one was about an hour and a half, but I paint a first draft sketch, mostly it can be seen as a blue or purple wash under the main work. this can take a little longer if it is a complicated piece the sketch was quick here but the 3 layers of paint after (waiting in between for drying) takes the time so I paint more than one at a time. These the six! One to come ( Aslan the Lion) took from say Friday last week a mind I have got another four sketches perpared I work in spurts very busy then just thinking, planning and dreaming.
Thank you I had a very good photo but to keep it orginal I changed the prespective and all the light areas. It's now a completly new look, which is what I try for.
Thank you, it I think is a still frame from the film the photo, that I used to get the expression and colour, as I did not want to make them look the same I change the perspective and the angle of view, also the colour a little and brought the face forward then I found I had to change the shading and the light fall, so praise to the original photographer for the expression, as that was the only thing I didn't change. I just over expanded it a bit.
A very complicated piece but very mentally rewarding.
Thank you, first this is an example of drawing I drew this with a paint brush. If you look at the two sides of it one side is dark and contrasts to the other lighter side, in each case they my act against each other but also be a foil for each other, so the use of colour as the tones makes it come alive. Saying that he's being turned to ice so I used blue to show the cold and red to show he's still living a little.
wow superfine!! a great mastery of gouache tempera, concentrated dyes, acrylics and all that practice, practice, practice...you're taking watercolors to a new level!
Thank you, although I enjoy people commenting on the subject or the look of the painting, to have someone comment on the techniques is rare, again thank you for your words of encouragement and I hope I can inspire others or reach the high level of achievement you give me.
Thank you, first no Photoshop if it was digital I'd have no problem saying so, It's all paint and watercolour pencil. In some cases I will use my scanner to darken a portrait to get a deeper black, but I'm a watercolourist not a computer artist. I have done Acrylic paint parts to it! where I needed to not have the W/C move for say overlay. I mostly choose original poses, so that I'm not working to just one photo and because of this I copy only a few. I can paint a mirror image of a photo to any size and although it sounds big headed, it would be perfect. How did I get like this well, 50 years of hard work, practice, perseverance and patience. Today we automatically thing people are on the make, to dispel this, I sell nothing, not one of my painting and I've done more than on this website has been sold, I give them away to friends, but mainly I love all of them and like my children and I would never sell them. OK if you would like free advise on drawing or painting just ask.
i can understand what you're saying about selling pictures ^^ although mine are nowhere near your level and i don't have to worry about selling them. even if i ever got to be this good, i couldn't be a professional artist, i could never give my pictures away for money, because they're... well... mine.
i've never really tried watercolour for realistic paintings, only for... strange ones blue people with green hair and without eyes, that sort of stuff ...
how and when did you first start using watercolurs?
OK, I'm a little defensive that people will think I'm a professional artist just selling my portraits. I'm the opposite I'm a old type teacher I help others on this site, with my 50 years of experience. Self taught but I encourage people to seek out skills and Qualifications, as Knowledge can be fun to! I paint an incredible number of paintings in a week as it's my passion, but I take time out to help others the way other amateurs helped me.
Thank you, I wish I'd done this in stages as some think it's digital it's not! but I wish I'd thought it was going to get the reaction it's got. Ok I'll do another not the same but similar and stage it perhaps in three. Thanks for the nice comments.
Thank you, completly mine it's an original all from my brain. OK now you've seen how easy it is can I talk you into having a go all you need is a brush water One colour and a Piece of W/C paper. Go on have ago.
When you do come back and I'll give you a little help on starting. As the drawing you need to start with is a little different to what you draw now less a drawing and more a map not difficult but different.
