Excellent I like these they show great insight into the person. Cowpox was his greater find as it went on to become a small pox vaccine. He noticed that no milk maid ever anywhere contracted smallpox. This lead to all kinds of vaccines.
Ignace-Philippe Semmelweis, born on 1 July 1818 in Ofen (German name of Buda district of Budapest), died at Döbling near Vienna on 13 August 1865, is a doctor Austro-Hungarian obstetrician who worked for hygiene. It demonstrated the usefulness of washing hands after the dissection of a corpse, before making a delivery. It also showed that hand washing reduced the number of deaths from puerperal fever in women after childbirth. Until birth the doctors tried in vain to understand where from puerperal fever by many autopsies. For those who have finally been convinced by the ideas of Semmelweis, it was a terrible blow: it was that they unwittingly transmit the disease.
