My daughter: "It's great. Why don't you frame it and give it to me now?"
My son: "It's cool. Why don't you draw one of Christina Aguilera?"
My Mom: "It's wonderful. Why didn't you wait until she put her dress on to draw her?"
My friend the sportsman: "It's great. Is this why you didn't play golf today?"
My friend the businessnan: "It's terrific....look great in the bar. I'll give you 300 for it."
Me: Everytime I think I may have made progress, I try to draw some drapery and get jolted back to reality.
In the ad biz, if a client chose our agency, from all the candidates...no matter how demanding or unreasonable they were...we immediately identified them as people of great class, discerning style and imminent good taste...yes...we were whores.
depends on the size, if its big, then yeah its worth it. I probably just came off jealous, cause I am! I hope I can make big bucks like that someday for my art.
well...since you put it that way...it's 19x24" - the piece that sold is the digitally colored version (& I had to change the sofa color to deep gold & the dress to burgundy per the patron's wife!) I charged an additional $75 for that...+ high-end digital printing on silk-like fabric & a suitable framing job brought the delivered piece to 800 bucks. You need friends, patrons, a reputation & to get far away from e-bay where art sells for five bucks & often isn't worth even that. I sold prints of two Elizabeth Taylor portraits to the same person for similar fees & a wall-sized mural of Pamela Anderson at the beach for even more. To graduate to an area where you could begin to live on your earnings as opposed to being a "starving artist," forget portraits (unless you'd like to hack out the buyer - family - & their pets)) and move to art that is truly innovative and has (or seems to have) meaning. 3 or 4 hundred is tiny bucks unless you have them lined up for blocks. Hang in there Kent.
You're quite welcome Mr. Charm! And by no means should you become discouraged, you got skills! A Vision, Personality, and sadly Salesmanship (or a great agent) can play major roles in success.
What a nice surprise to discover that you added me to your list. Your attention touches me much and means a lot from a great arstist like you, my dear John. THANKS !!!!!!
