Excellent you have more flare with a brush for me than your very good drawings I like the tint of red. Even though you worked more losely with paint I feel it is a more emotional laikeness to Kate. Great eyes
A little tip is to start light and go darker in layers, so start say a flesh tone. To make it yourself: take 6 parts white, 1 part lemon yellow or light yellow, 1 part Cadmium Red or middle red, This will be FLESH tone add red for darker or more white for lighter. Make a basic amount in big quantities. Another useful tip is use three wash out cups or mugs, one wash out for black and dark Blue and nothing else, the other two as normal one clean. one wash out. The black one, do not throw away this becomes Dirty water which will eventually have a translucent quality and will when over painted on to say flesh paint looks like wrinkles, scar or shadow. Ok a lot to look at, you can do it, new skills always take a lot of learning.
Keep painting Good Luck
actually, I paint it over. I start from the dark to clear. And I see that I should do the opposite. I'll try for next. Brian thousand thank you for all your advice. They make me move and encourages me to persevere.
You have it right with light to dark it's the stopping I have problems with. The secret of the hair is to paint with Paynes Grey first, then black, this will look different to just black try it it works. Then back ground will still be dark but hair will look different. Brian
