I work in production in factory and have learned after thirty years to become more of a finisher. When younger I did leave a lot of works undone. Now reaching my 62 birthday I have learned to stick with the work but it is still hard for me to do the details of the clothing especially. Keep painting I will get to it when I retire. Want to learn oil like you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoyed visiting your site. Did you do Obama? Are you retired soon? Where are you in USA? I might pay you a visit... and yes I also was good at eyes, faces, hands and feet but lack of interest of clotings and even hair... so don't ask me to paint a landscape... a chacun son métier... LovYa
Yes I did Obama in graphite and colored pencil. I think most people like the colored pencil one though. It is a better pose he looks happier in it. I live in Michigan City Indiana. Five minutes by car from Lake Michigan. Originally I was raised in Cleveland Ohio. I find the same trouble with clothing and hair that you do too. I can do landscapes but don't really like doing them I much prefer doing people and animals even some cartoon type drawing. I guess we are more illustrators than artists.
Oh I was wanting to retire at 62 which I am approaching but I think I have to continue to at least 66 for full retirement money from S.S. but then by that time I guess maybe there won't be much money left in that either. So I go year to year and hope to keep healthy enough to out live my working days. We didn't save much raising eight children between my husband and me so for now I keep doing and hoping!!!!!!
To bad Chris that you moved away from me, Ohio is closer to Montreal than Indiana... I'll look for Barack Obama... and yes some people considere me not to creative because I do need a photo... not to original or creative but again they can't do what I do... I am so inspired by the model, it have to look alike... tks
I think the great masters before photography used glass sheets and traced the person on them some used reflections off walls with candle light so they used any means of transfer they could even back then. VanGho used the glass plates and mounted them using them for scenery. Interesting how people who don't draw can make these judgements. I can draw from life but using the photos is actually harder you are taking something flat and trying to three dimention it. If you draw from life you can see the subject so much clearer and bigger I might add.
