What a shame. How many criminal actors will now hope for a pardon? :D It's a great job Tom! You really captured that bemused, glassy, straight-ahead stare.    :hi: :) :whip:

 heybu9 - 11/06/09 à 13:40 répondre
:hi:Thanks again, John for your comments. Getting the glassy stare was only 50% difficult :hi:

 jpoulos2561 - 11/06/09 à 14:44 répondre
:D :D I haven't tried it, but I'll bet drawing a glass eye is harder than a real one. :hi: :hi: :hi:

:hi:I've had lots of practice for many years. I started drawing Sammy Davis Jnr. about 50 years ago    :hi:

 jpoulos2561 - 11/06/09 à 18:36 répondre
:D 50 years ago! All I could draw were '57 Chevys and Playboy Bunnies *xD *xD

 heybu9 - 12/06/09 à 10:39 répondre
:hi:Guess we all had different priorities :grin:Bunnies were great, but I was never into cars!!!I was "starstruck" and that never changed, though most of my favourites are on the big screen in the sky

 jpoulos2561 - 12/06/09 à 14:10 répondre
Hopalong Cassidy. Superman, Wild Bill Hickock & Gene Autrey...absorbed from the little 13", nearly round tube & reenacted in a cloud of dust outside... Mickey & Donald & Chip & Dale, Tom & Jerry starred when cartoons came on first (like 6AM),...Uncle Wiggly, Lash Larue, Little Lotto, Chilly Willy in the comic books... then I remember my great despair when I got my "tiny," 3 pound!, cigar-box of a 'transistor radio dominated by The Lennon Sisters, Patti Page, and hangover Big Band tunes until......along came Fats Domino & Elvis! Didn't we love it here! And how we couldn't wait to grow up & leave it all behind :( :D  :hi:

 heybu9 - 13/06/09 à 11:38 répondre
:hi:Television was a big luxury here, so I missed some of those guys, BUT, was a regular movie goer and had my own favourites. 3 Stooges ( or as we called them , the three stoogies) Joe McDoakes(the man behind the eight ball),Pete Smith Specialties, and the last of Stan & Ollie's career! Had all the cartoons in the cinema as well, on their first time around. Of course, our comics were all different , so I wont tell you names you don't know. I know what you mean about the radio music, but just before R&R there was a little interlude of some good stuff in the transition,; Billy Daniels, Frankie Laine, Johnnie Ray, etc. Of course they were to suffer badly with the advent of Fats, Little Richard, Jerry Lee etc. O.K. so we couldn't wait to grow up, but, darn ,if they didn't come with us :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

 jpoulos2561 - 13/06/09 à 15:39 répondre
Yep. I remember Ray & Laine as (for little me) dimly promising that the world and music was not to belong to my parents and to Lawrence Welk & Guy Lombardo forever! :D :D :D :hi: :hi:

 heybu9 - 13/06/09 à 17:49 répondre
:hi:Our L.Welk & G.Lombardo would have been Mantovanni & "Manuel and his music of the mountains" So the world was needing a change anyway! :hi:

 jpoulos2561 - 13/06/09 à 17:56 répondre
  :hi: & today the moments before the change & the 15 minutes of fame grow shorter & shorter & usually not a moment too soon :D :D :D I could name a hundred who only lasted a few months - and thank God! :D :D :D :D :D

 heybu9 - 13/06/09 à 18:02 répondre
:hi:Where are the biggies to-day? Bet you couldn't name a hundred of them

 jpoulos2561 - 13/06/09 à 18:28 répondre
Too true. Usually, it's sad. I can admire the one-hit wonders in many fields who DIDN'T fritter away the big windfall. Like...um...well...there aren't that many are there...Don McLean isn't a perfect example - he also had "Vincent" (Van Gogh_ but he made a life of luxury off "Bye, Bye" Miss American Pie" :D Royalties!! That's what you need! Royalties!

 heybu9 - 16/06/09 à 13:31 répondre
:hi:Never did manage to get royalties!! But I'm afraid the music scene has left me behind. I am going to a concert this week, and I really don't know if it is really sad, to go so far back, but allowing for hair loss and weight gain, I'm hoping to enjoy Neil Sedaka!!!!! :/ :/ :hi:

 jpoulos2561 - 16/06/09 à 13:45 répondre
Cool! That should be fun, He wrote 40 million songs!I saw Paul Anka in '08 (he's 5 foot nothing but - great show!) AND just bought tickets for Dylan, Willie & Mellencamp!!! Only 20 miles away! I'll never get any royalties either.   :D :hi: :hi:

 heybu9 - 17/06/09 à 13:29 répondre
:hi:Will let you know how it goes :roll:Of course Dylan & Willie are well known here but I had to Google Mellencamp, & I'm afraid none of his titles mean anything to me Just another example of the size of the big ocean) My concert is also about 20 miles away!! Talk to you again. All the best to you & yours :hi:

 jpoulos2561 - 17/06/09 à 14:05 répondre
I'm very surprised that John Mellencamp is unknown...interesting....he's a pretty big star and actually more likely to be played on mainstream oldies stations than the other two. It may be all about 'distribution' (where my meagre understanding falters drastically) Do they say at concerts there: "the taking of photographs and all recording devices are strictly prohibited?" well... Anka said: "Forget that, take all the pictures you want" then hung around in the lobby to sign autographs and pose with his (old) fans :D :D hope you have a good time at Neil's and - best to you & the crew too! :hi: :hi: :hi:

 heybu9 - 18/06/09 à 10:37 répondre
:hi:Maybe Mellencamp is only unknown to me!!!I like Anka's style, Maybe I should take a camera in case Sedaka is of like mind   :hi:

 jpoulos2561 - 18/06/09 à 14:07 répondre
Anka'a venue was only 2100 people...of which, I understand, only a hundred or so lingered. How large is the hall for Neil?

 heybu9 - 20/06/09 à 11:21 répondre
:hi:Belfast's Waterfront Hall holds about the same, give or take a hundred or so. Almost a full house except for a few seats way up there in the gods. My heart sank when I saw only a piano on stage. No backing band!!! But you know, he is such a pianist that nobody missed backing band or vocalists. Great show , I'm sure he didn't sing them all , but it seemed like it on the night. Even two of my favourites, which were never hits;;"Betty Grable" and "Stage Door Jenny" He's still in great voice and I reckon he must be at least 70! Talk to you again , John :hi:

 jpoulos2561 - 20/06/09 à 14:37 répondre
How refreshing to have a Belfast Waterfront Hall - we have sold all our stages to the highest bidder - so, we have Sprint/Nokia Pavilion at Walnut Creek, only Yankee Stadium said 'no' to $20 million - Here we would reminisce most over - Breaking Up Is Hard to Do -Oh! Carol - Calendar Girl - Love Will Keep Us Together & Stairway to Heaven !!! Although we never heard it 'til Zeppelin did it! Glad you guys had a good time - my tickets for Bobby, Willie and little Johnny Cougar aren't until June 26th - thanx for the update! :hi: :hi: :hi:

 heybu9 - 26/06/09 à 11:31 répondre
:hi:Hey John, Yes the Waterfront is good, but it is a hall. Belfast also has a much larger venue, but I've never been. What I do love is the old victorian "Grand Opera House" now that is a different world. The big snag there is , because of the smaller size, the biggest Stars can't get the big money. But it's great for shows that need a "theatre" :hi:Stand by for an influx of M. Jackson faces, quickly drawn for Stars-portraits By the way, ENJOY your concert tonight

 jpoulos2561 - 26/06/09 à 15:52 répondre
Hi Dr. T! :hi: :) :whip:There is much to be said for halls in which microphones are not required - e.g. plays etc. - all the great NY theatres are only about 2000 seats. Here every town of any size has a 2000 & a 5000 seat facility - smaller towns (like mine - a "C" size - also have 15-20,000 seat arenas - "B" & "A" list towns have the stadiums that hold up to 100,000 - we'll need them to see the MJ and Farrah 'tributes' that will be raised - I was confused or mis-communicated - my Dylan, Willie, Mellencamp show is not 'tii July 26 - but thanks. :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi:

 heybu9 - 07/07/09 à 11:21 répondre
:hi:Hey John, Don't talk to me about halls etc. At present I am closest to a small town with no hall. But lived most of my life in a larger town which managed to lose all it's theatres and cinemas as it "progressed" O.K. it does have one of those toy cinemas with 2 or 3 screens but are pale imitations of the real thing. So it's off to Belfast if we want to see anything :grr: :grr:Sorry, that's my moan over. Just an observation, but from this side of the pond , it looks like Farrah picked a bad week to give up living! :hi:

 jpoulos2561 - 07/07/09 à 14:54 répondre
:D MJ funeral tics have starting bids of $3,000 and are going for up to 10 grand on EBay! I'll bet publishing houses have a huge queue of morbid and maudlin titles lined up. AND...yes...It's a sad sign of the times that our movie screens have become only marginally larger than our 54" televisions! :D :hi: :hi: :hi:

 heybu9 - 11/07/09 à 11:12 répondre
:hi:So you have experienced the new modern "cinema" The MJ Mags are taking over the shelves in every shop!! I do admire the talent of MJ but can't join in the drawing frenzy   At present I have a few non-portrait things to do for a local exhibition, so my gallery will just have to smoulder for a while. All the best to you and yours, Tom :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi:
