Excellent, Great likeness a little more light, the shadows are excellent but the light cast is not light enough it would have taken it from excellent to Wonderful. Charcoal is such a bitch to control the light part that I treat it like water colour and mask out the light areas right at the beginning also I use ordinary cheap white chalk as a white light fall or eye shine agent. It has to be one stroke though because it will mix if do over and it does not seal very well. Excellent piece of work I know I'm commenting a lot but I'm trying to be helpful.
I actually like it when people comment me on my work. Sometimes it gets kinda anoying when they always congratulate ...even when it's not THAT good. I've been drawing since December 2008. My batman-drawing was my first. The Alexis Bledel-portrait was my very first real portrait wich i made in january 2009. I think i've come from far if u compare this Salma-drawing with the Alexis-drawing. I also draw it with limited resources. I actually don't have white chalk or white passtels. I always use Charcoal B and H and pencils H,B,2B,4B and 6B. But thx for the comments. I'll try to do even better next time.
White chalk is the same stuff children use on pavements or on blackboards in schools cheap very cheap. For most time limited resources adds to work because it focuses the mind but a piece of cheap chalk is a part of charcoal like fish and chips or pen and ink. put a little tape over the areas like masking tape or electrical tape don't press to hard on it and it will come of easily. It like once I told someone to buy graphite dust she said I can get it but ever old pencil that has a little bit of lead left has a piece that can be crushed I was very poor in the 70's and had to use hair spray for vanish and cabbage for yellow, coffee grounds for umber, soot for black colouring, tea for sepia and blood for dark Red all cheap paints not very good ones because they age.
I would reverse paper when one side was not good this lead me to discover new ways for paint to soak in.
